Minimally Invasive Surgery Options Available at Winthrop in Long Island, New York
In addition to our team’s work in the field of weight loss surgery, our experts can treat many conditions of the gastrointestinal tract through a variety of minimally invasive surgery procedures. At NYU Langone Long Island Surgical Associates, P.C. in Long Island, New York, we treat patients who come to us for our personalized treatment, supportive postoperative care, and expertise in general surgery.
Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery
Many general surgery procedures offered through the Winthrop Surgical Weight Loss Program are performed with a laparoscope. The laparoscope is a small telescope with a high-resolution camera that is inserted into the body during surgery. Our surgeons use the laparoscope to see what is going on inside the body while performing the surgery remotely with use of a computer monitor.
Laparoscopic procedures are minimally invasive, and surgery requires only small incisions through which the laparoscope and surgical instruments enter the body. Patients recover much more quickly after this type of surgery than after open surgery, which requires much larger incisions. We offer both open and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery at our center.
